January curriculum update

Primary, 1, 2 - Students will demonstrate persistent behaviours and effort towards improving and mastering learned skills and different types of physical activities. Students have really improved in using verbal and non-verbal cues from teacher and peers to improve motor skills and movement patterns. I often notice students helping each other in class!! Students will continue and engage in new activities using balls, beanbags, and other manipulatives to throw underhand, overhand, pass, roll, and strike different ways. Students have also started leading stretches at the beginning of class with pairs of students making up stretches and leading their classmates through the motions.

Grades 3, 4, 5, 6-  Like younger students, the upper elementary grades will choose, develop, and safely perform specific warm up and cool down activities and explain how these can help performance. Students will continue to engage consistently and constructively within a variety of games, focusing on applying learned movement skills and concepts relevant to the particular activity. Students will communicate the terminology, basic rules, and guidelines associated with selected team activities, this Month, particuarly Basketball. Students will learn and practice the skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, offence, and defense.
